Mumbai and the MMR

ERPNext implementation partner in Mumbai

Alignd is a small Frappe practice based in Mumbai. We implement ERPNext, Frappe CRM and Frappe HR, and we set them up for Maharashtra's GST and payroll rules before your first invoice or salary slip goes out.

Where ERPNext fits in Mumbai and the MMR

Businesses here vary a lot, and an ERPNext setup for a wholesaler in Masjid Bunder looks nothing like one for a plant in an MIDC estate. These are the kinds of business we see most often, and what each one needs.

Trading and distributionPrice lists, credit limits and batch tracking are standard, so the work goes into your masters.

This covers importers, wholesalers and distributors with long item lists, several price lists and customers on credit. ERPNext handles price lists, customer credit limits and batch or serial tracking out of the box, so most of our work goes into cleaning up your masters rather than building anything new. See ERPNext for trading and for distribution.

Warehousing around BhiwandiEach godown is a warehouse on one ledger, with e-way bills from the India Compliance app.

Many businesses keep the office and the books in Mumbai and the stock in godowns around Bhiwandi. In ERPNext each godown becomes a warehouse under the same company, stock moves between them on transfer entries, and you still have a single ledger. The e-way bills for the trucks running between them come from the India Compliance app, so nobody has to log in to a separate portal.

Manufacturing in MIDC estates and ThaneBills of materials and subcontracting are standard. Costing is what takes the time.

We work with engineering, plastics, packaging and job-work units across Thane, Navi Mumbai and Palghar. Bills of materials, work orders and subcontracting are all standard in ERPNext. The part that takes time is costing, which means deciding how scrap, job-work charges and overheads go into the item cost and agreeing that with your accountant first. See ERPNext for manufacturing.

Pharma and chemicalsBatches, expiry dates and first-expiry-first-out picking are standard. Validated software is a different project.

Batch numbers, expiry dates and first-expiry-first-out picking are all standard. If your plant needs software validated for a regulator, tell us on the first call. That's a different kind of project, and we'll tell you straight away whether we're the right people for it.

Services and IT firmsProject billing, timesheets and statutory payroll, checked against figures worked out by hand.

For services firms the core is project billing, timesheets and payroll. Frappe HR runs Indian statutory payroll, and we check it against figures worked out by hand before the first real month. We did this for a 30-employee IT firm in Delhi, where the rules aren't the same as Maharashtra's. See ERPNext for IT services.

What a Maharashtra implementation has to get right

GST: state code 27Every Maharashtra GSTIN starts with 27, and the tax split only works if your addresses are right.

Every Maharashtra GSTIN starts with 27. ERPNext, with the India Compliance app, picks CGST plus SGST or IGST by comparing the place of supply with your company's state. Goods from Mumbai to Pune carry CGST and SGST; the same goods to Surat carry IGST. That only works if your company address, every customer's billing and shipping address, and the tax templates are correct before the first invoice, so we check them during the migration instead of fixing them afterwards.

If you also hold a registration in another state, each GSTIN gets its own address and its own series of invoices. We set this up from the blueprint at the start, so nothing has to be renamed later.

Professional tax in Frappe HR payroll

Maharashtra levies professional tax on salaries, with slabs that differ for men and women and a higher deduction in February. Here are the rates in force from 1 April 2023, taken from the state's own rate schedule:

EmployeeMonthly salaryProfessional tax
MenUp to ₹7,500Nil
Men₹7,501 to ₹10,000₹175 a month
MenAbove ₹10,000₹200 a month, ₹300 in February (₹2,500 a year)
WomenUp to ₹25,000Nil
WomenAbove ₹25,000₹200 a month, ₹300 in February (₹2,500 a year)

Source: Rate Schedules under the Profession Tax Act, 1975, Maharashtra GST Department, checked 20 October 2026.

Where copied payroll setups go wrongThe gender condition, the February amount and the Labour Welfare Fund rate.

Payroll setups copied from another state tend to get two things wrong, the gender condition and the February amount. We write both into the salary structure and run user acceptance tests with expected values, so if February deducts ₹200 instead of ₹300, we catch it as a failed test before it turns into a notice.

The other thing to get right is the Maharashtra Labour Welfare Fund. The 2024 amendment set the contribution at ₹25 for each employee on the register on 30 June and 31 December, with the employer paying three times that, ₹75. The same text lets the state raise the employee rate once every three years by up to 30 per cent, so we check the current rate when we set it up instead of trusting a template.

Your data stays in India

We host on Frappe Cloud with dedicated resources, in the Mumbai region, so client data stays in India under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act. If you'd rather own the cloud account yourself, we set it up there and hand you the keys. Either way your configuration is kept in your own code repository, so if the site ever has to be rebuilt, your settings come back with it.

Why a small Mumbai partner

Alignd is founded by Asif Mulani, who built Frappe Sheets and worked on Frappe CRM, Frappe HR and Insights at Frappe. Senior people lead every project.

We've chosen to stay small. If you need round-the-clock support from day one, we're not the right fit, and we'll tell you that on the first call. What we do give you is your setup kept as code, a runbook at the root of your repository, and no changes to the core code, so any competent Frappe partner can take over from us later.

Questions Mumbai businesses ask us.

No. We're based in Mumbai and work with businesses across India, and our payroll case study is a Delhi firm. Being local helps most with the Maharashtra details, like GST state code 27, the professional tax slabs and the Labour Welfare Fund.

Yes. We configure it in the salary structure with the gender condition, the monthly salary slabs and the ₹300 February deduction, taken from the state's current rate schedule, and test it against hand-computed slips before your first real payroll month.

Usually not. Both are in Maharashtra, so the godown is normally added as an additional place of business under the same registration. Confirm that with your CA. In ERPNext it becomes a second warehouse and address under the same company, with stock transfers between them.

Yes. We host on Frappe Cloud in the Mumbai region with dedicated resources, so data stays in India under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act. If you'd prefer your own cloud account, we set it up there and hand you the keys.

Only if you want a single ledger, and that's the main reason to use ERPNext. We map your chart of accounts properly instead of dumping it across, clean up duplicate masters, and don't move anything until the trial balance matches in both systems.

A focused CRM or HR build runs four to eight weeks. A full ERP with migration runs three to six months. Every project starts with paid discovery, and you get a fixed scope and price before we build anything. Our cost guide has the public market figures if you want to compare.
